I rode to this race, it took me all of 10minutes. My race was at 2:10, but I rode over at 10:30 to watch other races. I watched the end of the 4/5s, the 45+/55+, the 35+1/2/3s, the kids race, and the women’s 1/2/3 while I was warming up. Because of crashes in earlier races, my race was delayed by about 30minutes. I warmed up on the rollers for about 50minutes, longer than I wanted to, but it didn’t matter too much. I went to the staging area, and lined up in the second row. The race started and I placed myself somewhere in the middle. I definitely liked being on the inside on all the turns, but there was one where I was always on the outside, and it worked for me. We were doing 24 laps and and I started getting tired with 12 to go. I was gradually falling back. With about 5 to go, I tried moving up. The downhill was the best place to do this, although I hit some bumps too hard I guess, because my bars dropped dramatically. Since I usually ride with my bars lower than other people, it didn’t bother me too much. SF streets are the worst by the way. So with 2 to go, I was somewhere in the middle again, and there was a crash exiting turn 6, the last turn before the finish. It took about 15 people out, but it was far enough ahead of me, that I was able to steer clear of it. I just stayed where I was for the last lap, unable to move up, and happy I made the top half.
